Julio Reyes was born in Hollywood, California and grew up in Los Angeles county.  Early in life he was recognized as a great athlete and excelled at Soccer to such a degree that he was offered scholarships and considered pursuing the sport professionaly.  To the surprise of many, he chose to pursue a life as an artist instead.

As an artist, Julio is an impeccable draftsman.  Born with the talent for understanding how things are structured and his abilities honed through years of disciplined practice, his skill as a draftsman is exquisite and rare.

The duality of a painter and sculptor in one artist is very unusual, and yet Julio is a fine example of such.  His sculptures have won awards and several have been purchased by the Laguna College of Art and Design for their permanent collection.

Julio believes that the great purpose of art is to transmit values, ideals and stories, and consequently everything he does in art is to achieve those goals.  He is well read and possesses a hungry mind, ready to devour new ideas and information from any situation. Julio strives to imbed great content and meaning in each work of art, and is determined to never let a work leave his studio until he is completely satisfied with its quality and finish.  His work is known for having a power that feels masculine and a finish that breathes refinement.  These unique and contemplative works have gained him many awards and collectors.

Julio accepts commissions in oil painting, drawing, watercolor, and sculpture (bronze or plaster).
